Botwood
The Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre is a multi-faceted facility with 80 beds (76 long-term care, two respite, one palliative care and one sub-acute) designed to provide clinical and 24-hour Category B Emergency services, diagnostic services and long-term care services (level III & IV care) to communities within the Exploits Health Services area. The centre has a 29-bed protective care unit, a 39-bed long-term care nursing unit and is home to the 12-bed Exploits Memorial Veteran’s Pavilion, a unit dedicated for veterans residing in Central Newfoundland. Additional services available at include: 24-hour nursing service, social worker, recreation therapy program, clinical dietitian, pastoral care, volunteer program, palliative care program and nursing and protective care respite.
This modern facility has five family practice physicians and a nurse practitioner.

Town of Botwood, incorporated in 1960 with a current population of approximately 3,100, is a small community nestled in the heart of the Exploits Valley – a beautiful area which encompasses much of Central Newfoundland. Primarily a seaport town, Botwood has a stunning landscape, including a scenic and peaceful harbor, suitable for both leisure and economic purposes. Featuring all the amenities of a larger town while still maintaining the rustic country charm which appeals to so many people, Botwood has proven to be an ideal environment to complete a student placement.
