MCAT
To be eligible to apply to the Doctor of Medicine Program in any cycle, the MCAT must be written on or before the deadline listed in Application Timelines on our webpage and submitted by the deadline listed within.
Scores must be released AFTER June 24, 2026; scores released before this date will not be retrieved for the 2026-2027 cycle.
Scores older than 5 years from the deadline date (prior to August 26, 2021) are expired and not accepted.
There is no minimum MCAT score required to apply. MCAT scores from previous matriculating classes ranged from 503-506 for the NL and PEI pools. Out of province applicants are advised to have an MCAT score of at least 510 due to the limited number of seats and large volume of competitive applications received for these spaces.
For the 2026-2027 cycle, scores must be released to Memorial University, as outlined below, on or before Thursday, September 24, 2026. Scores released after this date are not accepted; the only method of score submission is via your AAMC account, no other formats are accepted.
The fee to write the MCAT exam is $345 USD. Applicants experiencing financial difficulty may qualify for a fee reduction via the Association of Faculties of Medicine in Canada (AFMC). Receiving fee assistance from AFMC comes with several benefits in addition of a fee reduction to $140USD. Please note that applicants seeking financial assistance must be approved for the Fee Assistance Program prior to registering for the exam to receive reduced registration fees. Benefits of fee assistance are not retroactive; reimbursements are not issued after registration and scheduling of the exam. There are several application deadlines available each year, complete details and timelines can be found on the AFMC website. Applicants that qualify for the Vision Program may receive full funding for the cost of the MCAT exam, in addition to other benefits.
Please note that receiving financial assistance under the Vision Program is independent of the fee assistance for the MCAT from AFMC.
Canadian medical schools will only receive your MCAT result upon your consent being given to AAMC. You must therefore specify that you want your test results released to each school to which you are applying. This can only be done after your results have been sent to you. Please use the MCAT Score Reporting System to send your scores to Memorial University; refer to the Help Questions within the Score Reporting System for specific instructions. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the "Scores Sent to Institutions" option to confirm that results have been successfully sent to Memorial University.
MCAT Directions
- Log in to your AAMC account.
- Under the My Reports tab, click “Send Scores Electronically”.
- Select the institutions to which you are applying to release your score(s). For Memorial University, select “Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty of Medicine” as indicated below.

Applicants are encouraged to register for the MCAT as soon as they know they are applying to medical school; testing seats are limited at the St. John’s location and fill up quickly once registration opens. The Admissions Office cannot accommodate exams with score release dates that occur after our published deadline. Applicants who experience technical difficulties during their MCAT that impact their test experience, should receive official documents from AAMC indicating such. If you feel that your score has been greatly impacted due to an issue within control of the testing centre, you should email the documentation from AAMC to the Admissions Office detailing the circumstances of your experience.
