Memorial University’s Policy and Procedure Framework

Memorial University's non-academic policies and procedures are governed by the policy on Development, Approval and Administration of University Policies or the "Policy on Policies". Policy Oversight Committee (POC)

The Policy Oversight Committee provides advice on the development, consultation, approval and dissemination of policies, procedures and guidelines in the Faculty of Medicine.  The POC ensures a coordinated and consistent policy process as outlined in their Terms of Reference.

Policy Approval Structure

The following bodies are responsible for the approval of policies, procedures and guidelines within the Faculty of Medicine:

  1. Undergraduate Medical Studies Committee (UGMS) is responsible for the approval of undergraduate policies, procedures and guidelines.
  2. Postgraduate Medical Education Committee (PGME) is responsible for the approval of postgraduate policies, procedures and guidelines.
  3. Graduate Studies Advisory Committee (GSAC) is responsible for approval of for FoM graduate studies policies, procedures and guidelines. Graduate Studies is also governed by the policies and procedures established by Memorial’s School of Graduate Studies
  4. Professional Development Council (PDC) is responsible for the approval of policies, procedures and guidelines related to the Office of Professional and Educational Development (OPED).
  5. Faculty Executive Committee (FEC) (formally the Senior Executive Committee (SEC)) is responsible for the approval of faculty-wide policies, procedures and guidelines.
  6. Policies may be presented to Faculty Council for information purposes.
