Dr. Anne Sclater was appointed Chair of the Discipline of Medicine at Memorial’s Faculty of Medicine on Sept. 1, 2003 .
Dr. Sclater earned her M.D. from Memorial in 1983, following completion of a B.Sc. (biology/chemistry) from the University of Windsor , and a M.Sc. (biochemistry) at Memorial. After completing a three-year residency in Internal Medicine at the teaching hospitals of Memorial University in St. John’s , Dr. Sclater did her subspecialty training in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto .
Dr. Sclater was a research Fellow in Medicine, Division on Aging at Harvard Medical School from 1987 to 1990, funded by an award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Harvard University .
She was awarded an FRCPC in Internal Medicine in 1991, and Certificate of Competence in Geriatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1993.
Dr. Sclater was a lecturer at the University of Toronto with clinical appointments in the Toronto Regional Geriatric Program at Baycrest Centre, Mt. Sinai Hospital , and Sunnybrook Medical Centre. Her next appointment was as an Assistant Professor at McMaster University with Clinical appointments in the St. Joseph ’s Health Care System. This was followed by an appointment at the University of California at Davis as an Associate Professor, and Director of Geriatric Medicine.
Dr. Sclater then joined the University of Alberta and Capital Health on September I, 1998 as Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta ; and Regional Program Clinical Director, Geriatrics, for Capital Health Authority. During her tenure in Capital Health, she continued her interests in diabetes in the elderly, health outcomes and systems research, and elder abuse. She worked with Alberta health and Wellness on the development of provincial strategies on Healthy Aging and Alzheimer Disease. In Capital Health Authority she co-chaired committees to develop a long term strategy on improving Discontinuity of Care for Seniors and the development of an Acute Geriatric Services model for the Northern Alberta Regional Geriatrics Program.
Dr. Sclater has authored an extensive list of publications and presentations in geriatrics.
