Christopher Paul Patey
Assistant Professor MD CCFP FCFP FRRMSFamily Medicine | Cross Appointed to Emergency Medicine
With over 20 years of experience in rural emergency and community medicine, Dr. Christopher Patey is a dedicated advocate for healthcare innovation and process improvement. Serving as Clinical Chief of the Carbonear Emergency Department in Newfoundland and Labrador, Dr. Patey spearheaded initiatives to enhance patient flow and access to care.
In 2016, Dr. Patey was appointed Assistant Professor at Memorial University's Faculty of Medicine. He co-developed SurgeCon, an integrated software and clinical process tool designed to improve emergency department efficiency As a Co-Principal Investigator on a $4.8 million CIHR research grant, he has focused on the implementation and evaluation of emergency department flow. To further support grassroots rural research, he founded the Carbonear Institute for Rural Reach and Innovation by the Sea (CIRRIS) in 2017, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing rural health research and community health projects, where he serves as CEO. In 2018, Dr. Patey expanded his focus to telehealth by joining FoneMed, an international telehealth company, as Medical Director for Canada. He continues to lead in the integration of technology and healthcare as Vice President of Innovations at Mobia Health, where he works to enhance patient access and digital health solutions.
Dr. Patey earned his Bachelor of Science from Mount Allison University and his MD from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at McMaster University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He is a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (FCFP) and the Rural and Remote Medicine Society (FRRMS). Dr. Patey resides in St. John's, Newfoundland, with his wife and three children, and remains committed to advancing healthcare innovation.
