Joel Koops

Dr. Koops is a broad scope Family Physician practicing at the Ross Family Medicine Clinic in St. John’s. He obtained his MD from Memorial in 2012 and following a 2-year stent as a radiology resident, completed his family medicine residency at sites across Newfoundland. He has special interests in point of care ultrasound (PoCUS) as well as artificial intelligence/machine learning and their application to primary care. Dr. Koops was born in the Netherlands but grew up in St. John’s and has been working there since 2015. He is passionate about teaching and was awarded the Dr. Gus Rowe Clinical Teaching Award for 2022-2023. Dr. Koops is an avid runner and enjoys all things outdoors.
