Dr. Jessica Bishop joined the Discipline of Family Medicine as an Assistant Professor in January of 2016.  Dr. Bishop helped build the low-risk, family medicine-obstetrical (FM-OBS) group, Family Centered Maternity Care (FCMC), the only group of family physicians providing intrapartum training to medical learners and care to patients on the Avalon. Her research interests lay in the provision of Obstetrics, Women's Health, Breastfeeding Medicine and Newborn Care.  Dr. Bishop is Clerkship Director for the Rural Family Medicine Clerkship here at Memorial University. She enjoys collaborating with colleagues to ensure medical students are exposed to comprehensive family medicine training experiences in the underserved areas of our beautiful province.

Dr. Bishop grew up in St. John's, NL and completed her medical education at Memorial in 2010. She then went on to complete her family medicine residency training at the University of Alberta and worked at the University of Calgary and while doing low-risk Obstetrics in Calgary prior to moving back to Newfoundland. Dr. Bishop is the Physician Lead for the Family Centered Maternity Care group. She works out of the Family Medicine Clinic at the HSC and has a full scope family medicine practice with special interests in FM-OBS, women's health, breastfeeding medicine and menopause.
