Assistant Dean
Dr. Andrew Hunt was born and raised in Twillingate, NL. After completing a Bachelor of Science degree at Memorial University, he completed both the Doctor of Medicine and Family Medicine Residency programs at Memorial University's Faculty of Medicine. He returned to his hometown in 2011 to pursue a career in rural family medicine.
Supported by a robust team of multidisciplinary colleagues, Dr. Hunt expanded his primary care role by engaging in medical education and physician leadership. An advocate of rural health and social accountability, Dr. Hunt dedicated much of his efforts to ensuring quality primary health care delivery and training within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador through various Central Health leadership roles that include Senior Medical Officer, Chief of Staff, and Vice President of Medical Services. His contributions to medical education are portrayed through his teaching roles with Memorial University's Faculty of Medicine as an Assistant Professor with the Discipline of Family Medicine and as Evidence-Based Medicine Coordinator with the Central Stream Family Medicine Residency Program. He also regularly instructs advanced cardiac life support and point of care ultrasound courses as a certified instructor with Heart and Stroke and the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society.
Dr. Hunt is a proud member of the Twillingate primary health care team that provides a robust experience for learners in medical training. He and his team enjoy providing high quality educational opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical learners at all levels of training. Much of this site's great reputation and success is attributed to the tireless work of his predecessor, Dr. Mohamed Ravalia.
Outside of work, Dr. Hunt thoroughly enjoys the outdoors, spending much of his time fishing, hunting, boating, hiking and snowmobiling along with his spouse and three children. Hockey and golf are passions, as are new travel experiences and opportunities to meet people and explore the diverse cultures of the world.
Dr. Hunt's commitment is to enhance and optimize distributed medical education through scholarship, research and experience with collaborative networks by helping to lead supportive teams, people and communities to deliver high quality health care as determined by the health needs of our society.
