Anatomy Laboratory (N=2)
All cadaver and wet specimen use and work for undergraduate (UGME) medical learners happens in these rooms.
This room is a state of the art laboratory that was recently renovated with multimillion dollar upgrades to the air handling system and included downdrafted equipment to maintain all requirements to use formaldehyde preserved specimens.

Four downdraft tables are available for specimen viewing and dissection to complement the technological and dry model areas in the adjoining spaces.

There are PathMobile systems in use that enable recording and use in activities, such as specimen display and dissection and can be displayed in other areas of the facility and in distributed learning sites.

3D printed models highlighted in this video are examples of other types of plastic models and plastinated specimens that offer multi-modal ways for all learners to absorb anatomy content. In addition to direct learning, UGME related research projects that use wet specimens can take place in this area on downdraft tables.

Embalming room and mortuary space
All preparation work to maintain all cadaver and wet specimen banks for UGME happens in this room.
This room is part of a state of the art laboratory that was recently renovated. The embalming room has a mortuary bank enabling up to 12 anatomical donors to be stored for research and curriculum learning in the UGME anatomy program.

The novel and custom embalming table and the downdraft chemical mixing station allow for staff and users to work safely with different types of preservatives in the large volumes required to preserve priceless specimens. Fume hoods and safety showers enable use of chemicals in the same space as the embalming and cadaver storage, making the space safe and efficient all at once.

UGME anatomy teaching with wet specimens also gives the learners a valued respect for life when they are permitted to handle these unique and individualized specimens as learning tools for basic anatomy and in-depth research projects.

Multidisciplinary learning rooms (larger) and laboratories (N=8)
All non-wet specimen portions of anatomy laboratories, as well as sessions related to clinical skills, special interest groups, PoCUS and required technology happen in these rooms.

These rooms house learning spaces that allow for anatomy teaching using various forms of plastic and plastinated models and technology, such as Anatomage, ultrasounds, ipads etc in concert to the wet specimen areas described above.

UGME learners are also exposed to learning events using suture training, ultrasounds, and sessions using standardized patients as needed. The area enables break-out sessions for topics in UGME curriculum in areas such as histology using Anatomage, Aperio software, and microscopy.

Task trainers for IV placement, and physiology equipment for EKG and EEG are all available for faulty to use in UGME sessions. Similar larger rooms with fume hoods enable chemical based laboratory activities when needed to support research projects and curriculum needs and preparation for these laboratory area. Computers and monitors in all rooms enable teaching and presentations in these rooms.

Multidisciplinary learning rooms (smaller) (N=4)
Small group sessions related to clinical skills, special interest groups, PoCUS etc. with required technology happens in these rooms.

These smaller rooms house learning/meeting spaces that allow for small group sessions and break out learning for more intimate training, such as in topics related to trauma training and difficult conversation events the UGME learners attend. The equipment and supplies mentioned above are all available to be used in these rooms when capacity is exceeded in the larger rooms.

MUN Medicine 3D printing laboratory and networking space
3D design and printing of required models and task trainers for curriculum and research happen here.

This innovative space supports networking, design and printing of 3D models and task trainers for teaching and specific research projects in UGME. The boardroom and interactive space enables networking with learners and staff. The 3D printer room has various numbers and models of printers with various materials to enable design and printing of many required items.
