Supervisory Committee

A supervisory committee will be appointed for each graduate student by the Dean of Graduate Studies, on the recommendation of the Associate Dean - Graduate Studies (Medicine). The supervisory committee will consist of the Supervisor (or co-supervisors) and normally at least two other faculty members. In deciding such a committee it is as well to bear in mind that supervisory committee members cannot serve as examiners for the thesis, and are not normally members of the examining committee for the PhD comprehensive examination.

The function of the supervisory committee is to (i) decide, in consultation with the student, the program of study and research subject; (ii) monitor the student’s progress; (iii) provide an annual supervisory report (see below); (iv) recommend any changes in the program of study; (v) recommend the timing of the comprehensive examination; (vi) read the thesis and complete Form SGS-99-05; and (vi) recommend to the Associate Dean - Graduate Studies (Medicine) suitable members of the Thesis Examining Board.
