PGME Pan Program Academic Half Days
Target Audience
Residents in year one and two of postgraduate training.
Objectives:
- To deliver a comprehensive introductory educational program for postgraduate medical trainees with a focus on the non-medical expert CanMEDS roles
- To provide curriculum that highlights social accountability and responds to the contemporary needs of residents
Methods: Using the CanERA (Canadian Excellence in Residency Accreditation) standards, an educational portfolio has been created for PGY 1 and PGY 2 residents from all post graduate training programs. Content will be delivered during protected academic time (3 hours) every month during a 2-year cycle. A needs assessment survey was sent to all Program and Assistant Program Directors at initiation of the program.
Assessment: Occurs in a variety of formats such as case-based or small group discussion, reflective exercises, simulation or projects/presentations. Some assessments will be general while others will be Discipline specific.
Program Evaluation: After each session, residents and faculty will be invited to provide feedback. Feedback will be collated every few months and sent to Faculty facilitators as well as Associate Dean PGME for review. Overall program evaluation will occur annually, and shared with the PGME committee.
