G.M. Radu

Greg M. Radu, MD, MBA, FRCPC is Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Dean, Learner Well-Being and Success in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University. He is a practicing psychiatrist and psychotherapist at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's, and former director of psychotherapy training in the Discipline of Psychiatry at Memorial. He is Chair of the Provincial Psychiatric Services Advisory Committee, member of the Provincial Mental Health and Addictions Advisory Council and senior medical advisor with the Department of Health and Community Services, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. He is on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Psychiatry Examination Board and the Chair of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada Committee on Student Affairs.

An international speaker, he has delivered presentations, well-being workshops and health professions’ leadership courses in more than 20 countries. He is a regular faculty for the Essential Skills in Educational Leadership and Management (ESMELead), an AMEE accredited course, and for the Centre for Medical Education/APMEC, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He held visiting professorships in New Zealand, Finland and United Kingdom and is currently an Honorary Associate Professor in the Swansea University Medical School.

He earned an MD at Carol Davila University in Bucharest and an MBA at the University of Liverpool. He completed a residency in psychiatry at Memorial University and fellowships in psychotherapy at New York University and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.

He holds a number of leadership positions, including vice chair of the Canadian Mental Health Association National board, chair of the European Psychiatric Association section of psychotherapy, former chair of the Canadian Psychiatric Association Section of Psychotherapy and former associate editor of the Canadian Medical Education Journal.

He has been the recipient of the Canadian Mental Health Association Provincial Mental Health Leadership Award and the Public Service Award of Excellence received from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador as member of the Towards Recovery Team which oversees the implementation of the provincial mental health and addictions action plan, Towards Recovery.

He is committed to advancing sustainable well-being and social progress based on inclusion of well-being in all policies, programs and services; promotion of well-being and highest possible quality of life for all; and development of benchmarks and tools to measure well-being.
