Roger Chafe is a Full Professor in the Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences (PHAHS) in Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada).  Roger is a past executive member of the Council of Canadian Child Health Research; the editorial board of the journal Healthcare Policy; a member and board member of the Maternal, Infant, Child and Youth Research Network; member of the Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program Advisory Committee; and founding Director of the Janeway Pediatric Research Unit (Memorial University).  He was a faculty member in Memorial University’s Discipline of Pediatrics from 2010 to 2024.  In 2024, he transferred into PHAHS.

Education:

He holds a PhD in Medicine and an MA in Philosophy from Memorial University. He completed a CHSRF-CIHR postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation at the University of Toronto and in the Cancer Services and Policy Research Unit at Cancer Care Ontario. He is a former Adjunct Professor in Dalhousie University’s School of Health Services Administration; and a Research Associate of the Comparative Program on Health and Society with the Munk Centre for International Studies at the University of Toronto.

Research:

Roger has research expertise in the areas of health services research, applied qualitative research, public engagement, evaluation, and health policy. His work has been published nationally and internationally in journals including Nature, Lancet Oncology, Canadian Medical Association Journal, Governing.com, and the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care. He is the author of the book Allocating Health Care Resources in Canada: A Comparison of Nine Case Studies.
