Anatomical Gift Program
Donating Your Body to Science
The Anatomical Gift Program allows one to donate their body, as a gift, to the Anatomical unit in the Medical Laboratories unit of Memorial University, Faculty of Medicine. All donations are covered by "An Act Respecting Human Tissue and the Disposition of Human Bodies" cited as "Human Tissue Act (1971)" amended 2006 c40 s21
Human bodies are an indispensable aid in medical teaching and research. The basis of much medical knowledge is human anatomy; human anatomy is best learned by the study of the human body. Without this study the teaching of doctors, surgery, and the alleviation of disease or repair of injury is more difficult. There is a need for anatomical donations that will increase with the demand for more doctors, nurses, physical therapists and other members of the health care professions.
