Travel to Distributed Sites
Phase 1-3
Travel for undergraduate medical students (Phases 1-3) is reimbursed through the Faculty of Medicine. Therefore, learners completing travel for Phase 2: Community Engagement Visit and Phase 3: Black Bag will receive reimbursement through the Distributed Medical Education office.

Phase 2 Newfoundland & Labrador |
Phase 2 |
Reimbursement will be provided for the mileage of one round-trip to your rotation site. Learners who are travelling by airfare should avail of the most economical flight to their rotation site. |
Reimbursement will be provided for economy airfare. Original receipts MUST be included (if traveling by air, boarding passes must also be provided). If a learner elects to drive rather than fly, they will be reimbursed their actual costs, up to the cost of a flight. |
Phase 3 Newfoundland & Labrador |
Phase 3 New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island |
Reimbursement will be provided for the mileage of one round-trip to your rotation site. Learners who are travelling by airfare should avail of the most economical flight to their rotation site. |
Reimbursement will be provided for economy airfare. Original receipts MUST be included (if traveling by air, boarding passes must also be provided). If a learner elects to drive rather than fly, they will be reimbursed their actual costs, up to the cost of a flight. |
Phase 4
Travel in Phase 4 is reimbursed by Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services but must be approved by the Distributed Medical Education office before reimbursement can occur.

Learners travelling to New Brunswick will be reimbursed for one round-trip to New Brunswick from Newfoundland and Labrador. If flying, learners will be reimbursed one round-trip economy airfare. If a learner elects to drive rather than fly, they will be reimbursed their actual costs, up to the cost of a flight. |
Phase 4 - Clerkship Prince Edward Island |
Phase 4 - Rural Selective Newfoundland & Labrador |
Learners travelling to Prince Edward Island will be reimbursed for one round trip to Prince Edward Island. If flying, learners will be reimbursed one round-trip economy airfare. Clerks traveling by air must make their own travel arrangements a couple of months in advance to the rotation to take advantage of economy fares. If a learner elects to drive rather than fly, they will be reimbursed their actual costs, up to the cost of a flight. |
Learners are eligible for reimbursement of mileage for one round-trip for one rural selective in Newfoundland & Labrador. If flying, learners will be reimbursed one round-trip economy airfare. Clerks traveling by air must make their own travel arrangements a couple of months in advance to the rotation to take advantage of economy fares. All travel claims MUST include original receipts and boarding passes. |

Reimbursement for travel is available for TWO electives only, as per the following: For elective rotations within Newfoundland, travel costs are reimbursed upon application by the students for one round-trip economy airfare or mileage. |
Reimbursement for travel is available for TWO electives only, as per the following: For elective rotations outside Newfoundland, travel costs are reimbursed upon application by the student for one-half of the round-trip economy airfare (to a maximum of $300) OR if driving, one-half of the round-trip gas/ferry only (to a maximum of $300). |
Postgraduate Learners
Travel reimbursement for postgraduate medical residents is provided by Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services and is facilitated through the Postgraduate Medical Education office.
