Western
The western region of Newfoundland and Labrador encompasses the Humber River, Bay of Islands, Port au Port Peninsula and Gros Morne National Park. Western is a wonderful location for learners who enjoy being outdoors, with close proximity to Newfoundland and Labrador’s Marble Mountain being a major attraction for skiers.
The western region has the largest number of faculty appointments in a distributed site, with 89 physicians from nine clinical disciplines. Western currently hosts a large number of Family Medicine and Royal College residents every year, along with undergraduate medical learners, and is a very popular region for undergraduate selective and electives.
In 2019/2020 there were 178 individual rotations in Western, of which 112 were undergraduate learners and 66 were postgraduates.
There are opportunities for medical learners at all levels to complete rotations in Western, including pre-clerkship, clerkship and residency education.
