Physician Leads
Physician leads are key to overseeing implementation and monitoring of the MD program, residency program and continuing professional development (CPD) curriculum and policies and procedures within their respective region.
Physician leads work with the vice-presidents (medical) of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services to address Faculty of Medicine and Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services interface issues within the region regarding students, residents and teachers. They liaise with the assistant dean, coordinator, accommodations coordinator and academic program administrators of Distributed Medical Education in identifying potential preceptors and sites.
Physician leads play a role in compliance with standards of all accreditation bodies, including the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS), College of Family Physician Canada (CFPC) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). They ensure responsiveness to undergraduate medical education (UGME), postgraduate medical education (PGME) and professional development (PD) evaluations. Finally, physician leads provide input on regional issues related to all phases of medical education and any administrative issues or concerns.
