Education

As a medical student at our regional campus, you follow the same curriculum as your classmates in St. John’s, N.L. This includes the same classes and the same exams.

Memorial learners at both campuses will come together in-person at key points throughout the MD program and will be connected virtually via bi-directional classroom technologies for day-to-day learning. Learners at both campuses will be required to meet Memorial’s MD program objectives as outlined in our Curriculum Map – C-Blue.

The first two years of Memorial’s MD program delivery on PEI will primarily take place from the new, five-story, state-of-the-art facility on the north end of the UPEI campus, which includes large group lecture theatres, small group learning rooms and a Clinical Learning and Simulation Center comparable to the facilities at Memorial’s St. John’s campus.

The new building is also home to an expanded UPEI Health and Wellness CentrePatient Medical Home, and UPEI’s Psychology Training Clinic. These facilities will be utilized by Memorial learners, UPEI learners, external organizations, patients and members of the public.

The third year of Memorial’s medical education program will be delivered at the two main clinical teaching hospitals on PEI, in Charlottetown and Summerside, with Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships strategically placed alongside block-based clinical learning.

The fourth year of the program will include elective clinical learning opportunities for learners on PEI, across Canada, or internationally, depending on the learner’s preferences.
