Purpose
To outline the approach to summative assessment in Phases 1-4 of the undergraduate medical curriculum.
Scope
Courses in the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Program.
Definitions
Summative Assessment — A process used to evaluate learner achievement at the end of a period of instruction.
Policy
1.0 Summative Assessment Requirements

1.2 All assessments and examinations must be in accordance with University Regulations.
1.3 Narrative description (CACMS Element 9.5) of learner performance, including non-cognitive achievement, should be included in the summative assessment plan for each required course wherever teacher-learner interaction permits this form of feedback.
