Science Outreach
By building on complimentary expertise and resources at MUN’s Grenfell Campus, the Qalipu First Nation, the Newfoundland and Labrador School District and Parks Canada, we offer a scientific and cultural outreach program for youth in the Newfoundland and Labrador, especially youth in rural and remote areas, girls, and Indigenous students. The program emphasizes the beauty of our universe, features women and Indigenous role models, engages Indigenous story-telling, discusses career opportunities, and emphasizes a diverse set of skills required in modern science such as creativity, cooperation and communication.
While school visits and observatory tours are suspended now for due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are thrilled to offer remote talks at the Grade 7-12 level for schools and other youth groups on a wide range of topics from sky stories to careers in science and quantum physics.
The program is funded by NSERC PromoScience Program, which offers financial support for organizations working with young Canadians to promote science, mathematics, technology and engineering.
