At Grenfell, you don’t just get a degree—you get the space to figure out who you want to be and the tools to start creating real-world change from day one.

The School of Arts and Social Science is the perfect place to write your own adventure: we are big enough to offer exciting paths across a broad range of subjects, but personal enough to feel like home. You will never be just a number in a lecture hall here. With our close-knit community and small class sizes, you’ll build real connections with professors and classmates who become your ultimate support system—mentors and friends who genuinely have your back as you dive into your passions and step into your next big chapter.

Where will your story start? Check out our degrees, minors, and certificates below!

SASS undergraduate (also called bachelor’s) degrees follow a 120-credit hour (40 course) structure, blending three key elements: your major, your minor, and electives. Your major is the heart of your degree—it’s the large concentration of courses that forms your specialization. Your minor is a smaller cluster of classes that perfectly pairs with or complements your main focus. Finally, elective courses round out your degree, giving you the freedom to follow your curiosity and try out subjects you've always wanted to explore.

The following list represent the major program options in SASS:

Along with your major, many of our programs encourage or require you to choose a minor. It’s the perfect way to customize your degree, explore a second passion, and add an extra edge to your resume. SASS offers minor programs in the following areas:

A graduate program (like a Master’s degree) is what comes after you complete your undergraduate degree. Instead of taking a broad mix of general classes, graduate-level schooling lets you specialize deeply in the subject you are most passionate about.

In SASS, we offer two specialized graduate paths designed to fit your unique goals:

  • Master of Applied Literary Arts (MA): Perfect for writers and creatives, this program goes beyond traditional literary study. It allows you to develop your unique creative voice while gaining practical, real-world experience in the literary arts industry.
  • Master of Management (MMGT): Delivered entirely online, this program is designed for future leaders who want to build advanced strategic and management skills. It offers the flexibility to elevate your career and learn to manage organizations effectively from anywhere.

Want to build targeted, practical skills that set you apart? Our stand-alone certificate programs allow you to customize your education and focus on real-world impact—whether you are looking to launch a business, champion local communities, or expand your global communication skills.

  • Certificate in Entrepreneurship: Turn your ideas into action. This 18-credit-hour program is perfect for students who want to build, scale, and manage their own business ventures or drive innovation within existing organizations.
  • Certificate in Sustainable Rural Communities: Connect deeply with the region. This program focuses on the unique opportunities and challenges facing rural areas, preparing you to contribute meaningfully to regional development, sustainability, and community resilience.
  • English as an Additional Language (EAL): Open doors to your global future. Available both online and in-person, these programs help you master English proficiency for academic and professional success while immersing you in western Newfoundland's rich culture.
