Minor in Film and Moving Image Studies

Media technologies are changing faster than ever, but the history of film and moving images extends over a century. This minor explores the diverse histories, theories, aesthetics, and global cultural practices of moving image media: film, television, video, and digital media.

Housed within Historical Studies, the minor includes core courses in Historical Studies and English, with electives in related programs including Classics, Philosophy, and Social/Cultural Studies. The program's interdisciplinary approach provides students with the critical tools and historical depth to understand diverse film and moving image practices from the 1890s to the present, while connecting their studies to contemporary social, cultural, and environmental issues in meaningful ways.
