Hear original music from a 2025 Juno award winner in the Fine Arts building!

Congratulations to our friend and collaborator Deantha Edmunds, Inuk soprano, who won Newfoundland and Labrador’s sole 2025 JUNO Music Award, winning Classical Composition of the Year for the piece Angmalukisaa. She is the first Indigenous woman to receive this composer award.
In 2024, the School of Fine Arts with the Grenfell Art Gallery commissioned a multi-media public art project for the Fine Arts balcony, featuring a visual rendition of Douglas Walbourne-Gough’s poem Herd and Deantha Edmunds’ musical composition in response to the poem, Returning. The piece plays regularly in the building, alongside a reading of Herd. Returning can also be heard on demand by scanning the QR code on the installation’s plaque next the Fine Arts balcony, and is available to listen through this link.
SOFA alumnus and visual artist Ernie Rennick undertook the project's visual design and creation, while the audio was produced by Louis McDonald at 62 Broadway. Additional support for the project and the 2024 public launch was provided by Canada Council for the Arts, Memorial’s Cross-Campus Initiatives and Office of Public Engagement, Grenfell’s Office of Engagement, and Colemans.
