Emergency Student Loan

The Grenfell Campus Student Union funds an emergency short-term loan to assist undergraduate students who find themselves in a difficult situation.

An application is available at Student Services main office. Please allow at least 24 hours for processing. To avail of this program, students normally must:

  • Be registered full time
  • Be in clear academic standing
  • Not owe any fees from previous semesters
  • Must have exhausted all other sources of assistance
  • Must demonstrate their ability to repay the loan one day before the registration date
  • Allow access to financial and academic information, if necessary, to determine eligibility
  • Provide documentation of proof of need, if necessary
  • Must agree to meet with staff to discuss their request
  • Allow sufficient time to process (normally a day)
  • Not exceed $500 per request

Grenfell Campus Student Emergency Bursary Fund

This fund will be facilitated through the Student Services/Life Department. Students deemed to meet the criteria for this fund will be referred by the Manager, Health and Diversity to the Campus Registrar/ Director of Student Services for final assessment.

Eligibility

To be eligible, a student must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a full time Grenfell Campus student who is experiencing a devastating, catastrophic and/or unforeseen circumstance;
    • Display a high financial need. Discontinuation of funding or sponsorship is not applicable;
    • Typically, be beyond first year of study at Memorial;
    • Provide consent for consultation to occur with the referring party and the Financial Office
    • Be continuing studies full-time for the current or upcoming semester (with the exception of students graduating);
    • Have been registered for full-time courses in the previous semester (depending on the program, exceptions may be made for the spring semester);
    • Maintain acceptable academic status reflecting that academic program progression and completion is a realistic goal.
