Grenfell Campus Celebrates 50 Years by Looking Back and Launching Forth!

Corner Brook, NL — Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, marked a major milestone with a series of events celebrating its 50th anniversary, including special access to its Archives and Special Collections, the launch of a commemorative book, and the introduction of a new scholarship campaign.
Archives and Special Collections Grand Opening
Guests enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Grenfell’s newly enhanced archives and rare book room. Highlights included the Bowater oral history collection, the Sir Wilfred Grenfell collection, and the recently acquired Newfoundland Room A.R. Lundrigan collection, features Newfoundland & Labrador book collection and historical maps of the province dating from 1556 to 1879.
Special Presentation: 50 Years of Amazing Adventures
Dr. Geoff Rayner-Canham, retired chemistry professor, and advocate for academic outreach, presented 50 Years of Amazing Adventures in 10 Anecdotes. Stories highlighted his Chemistry in Everyday Life initiative in rural areas throughout the province, including Northern Labrador. The recorded presentation can be viewed on Grenfell's YouTube channel.
Book Launch: Not by Accident, But by Design
The campus also celebrated the launch of Not by Accident, But by Design: A History of Grenfell Campus, authored by Dr. Jeff Keshen and Pat Rediger. The book, produced by Grenfell’s in-house publishing house, Horseshoe Press, reflects on the campus’s evolution and its impact on the region. 50th Anniversary Scholarship Fund
The event marked the official start of the 50th Anniversary Scholarship Campaign, aiming to raise $50,000 to establish renewable scholarships for students across all academic schools at Grenfell.
