Major in Mathematics
This degree is a bachelor of science major offered only at Grenfell Campus. The mathematics major covers the essential undergraduate topics in mathematics, develops rigorous logical thinking, and equips students with computational techniques to model and solve real-world problems. Students enrolled in this degree program are required to complete 120 credit-hours on either a full or part-time basis.
The course requirements for a major in mathematics are:
- 3 credit hours in a computer programming course. Computer Science 1001 is recommended.
- Mathematics 1000, 1001, 2000, 2050, 2051, 2130, 2260, 2320, 3000.
- Mathematics 3132 or 3320.
- 6 credit hours chosen from Mathematics 4191, 4242, 4251, 4305, 4343, or 4345.
- 3 credit hours in Physics chosen from Physics 1020, 1050, 2151, or 2400.
- Statistics 2550 (or equivalent)
- 12 further credit hours in Mathematics and Statistics at the 3000 level or higher, including 3 credit hours at the 4000 level (Physics 3820 may be used in place of an equivalent level Mathematics course)
- 3 credit hours chosen from Physics 2820 or Mathematics and Statistics at the 2000 level or higher.
