Early Alert
Grenfell Campus Academic Advising is pleased to offer a new proactive support service to students and faculty.
Early Alert is a program designed to support students who are experiencing academic challenges early in the semester so that they can be connected to the supports on campus to get them back on a path to academic success.
If a faculty member notices a student is struggling academically and has already made attempts to connect them with limited success, a referral to Early Alert may be warranted. Once a student is referred, the advising team will reach out to the student to request a meeting to discuss any academic issue(s) they may be facing and to recommend appropriate supports.
A student may be referred to Early Alert if:
- Their attendance to class has become sporadic
- They stop attending class
- They have missed important or numerous evaluations without notifying you
- There has been a significant decrease in academic performance
- There are any other academic concerns
The goal of Early Alert is to create a process that allows us to provide or direct students, who may be at academic risk, to a variety of supports. To refer a student, please email gcacademicadvising@mun.ca with the following information:
- Student name and number
- Course name and number
- Reason for the referral
If a faculty or staff member has concerns about a student that are non-academic in nature, students should be directed to the appropriate supports such as Campus Enforcement and Patrol, Counselling and Psychological Services, The Case Management Team, etc.
