Creativity starts here

If you’re dreaming about a life in the arts, this is the place to start. The School of Fine Arts at Grenfell Campus is at the heart of artistic life in Newfoundland and Labrador — where creativity, community, and landscape come together.

The School of Fine Arts (SOFA) is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Atlantic Canada— in Western Newfoundland (Elmastukwek, Ktaqmkuk, in traditional Mi’kmaw territory) — and is the only school in Newfoundland and Labrador offering Fine Arts degree programs. Our setting is a daily source of inspiration and we’re proud to be a place where art and performance are not only taught, but lived.

Small classes, big ideas

At the School of Fine Arts, you’ll find small classes, big ideas, and a community where experimentation and collaboration are part of daily life. From your first year, you’ll dive into hands-on practice, learn from working artists and theatre professionals, and explore how creativity connects with community and culture.

Our students graduate with more than knowledge and skills. They leave with the confidence to imagine boldly, the discipline to bring visions to life, and the adaptability to thrive in a world where creative thinking is in demand everywhere.

Grenfell Art Gallery

We’re also home to the Grenfell Art Gallery, the leading public art gallery in Western Newfoundland. The gallery is a vibrant part of campus life. It plays a vital role in our students’ education, connecting them directly with nationally and internationally recognized artist, exhibitions, and curatorial practices. It’s open to the public year-round, so our students learn and create in a space that’s alive with professional practice and creative energy.
