Fall Productions:
Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl
Running Oct. 30-Nov. 2, 8pm in the Fine Arts Theatre
Directed by Autumn Smith, Set and Costume Design by Vickie Marston, Lighting and Projection Design by Ray
Eurydice – quite simply…is a love letter to grief…
How we navigate the new when a huge piece of who we are is absent. It is an epic yet simple tale of finding ourselves again…
It is a quest to get back to before…
This version is set at the dawn of hope – a blitzed out London of 1946…The War is Over….
Eurydice will marry Orpheus – Orpheus will craft her symphonies on strings – but her threads are frayed and fractured…
She is missing her father…he will not walk her down the aisle…
If only…
If only she could see him one more time…
If only she could feel something other than the thud of absence
If only…
Now wouldn’t that make an interesting story.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare
Running Nov. 20-23, 8pm in the Fine Arts Theatre
Directed by Allison Kelly, Set Design by Vickie Marston, Costume Design by Elizabeth Perry, Lighting Design by Ray Moschuk
It’s Midsummer, it’s the 90s, and everyone is in love with the wrong person. What could possibly be more important than soul crushing, anxiety inducing, crazy-making, heart thundering love? High school lovers Lysander and Hermia are trying to run away from home to live out their fantasies, but Demetrius, in love with Hermia, chases them. Of course, Helena, in love with Demetrius, chases him. Meanwhile, a patch of “rude mechanicals” (aka. Theatre kids) are trying to rehearse a play for an upcoming wedding of two of their teachers, but the star of the show, Bottom, disappears! He has a quick but intense dalliance with the Fairy Queen, Titania, (she herself is in an on-again/off-again relationship with jealous Oberon). And at the centre of all of this mischief is Puck, scheming to make things play out in, what is for him, the worst possible way. The play is full of heart and humour, good AND bad intentions, and tons of 90s music hits. Join us for the chaos!
