Program Continuance Regulations

Students in the Bachelor of Business Administration program are subject to continuation regulations that govern how or whether they are permitted to proceed from one term to the next. These regulations:

  • Apply to full-time BBA students (i.e., those who are enrolled in at least 9 credit hours [3 courses] on the last to add courses in a given semester); part-time BBA students are not subject to program continuance regulations.
  • Are reviewed after each term of study beyond a BBA student’s first 30 credit hours (10 courses).

Essentially, to continue in the BBA program, students must maintain a minimum academic performance of 60% (overall average) in their courses each semester of full-time enrollment. The consequences of failing to meet program continuance requirements is summarized in the table below.

BBA students are responsible to familiarize themselves with these regulations, which may be reviewed in Section 9.4 of the University Calendar, and are encouraged to reach out to us at gcbusiness@mun.ca with any questions.

Program Continuance Offences

Outcome

Academic Warning:

  • Full-time BBA students who complete their term with an overall average of between 60-65%.
  • These students are not in violation of Program Continuance regulations, but will receive an Academic Warning letter and be encouraged to reach out to gcbusiness@mun.ca to discuss academic performance.

Program Probation, 1st offence:

  • Full-time BBA students who fail to meet the 60% minimum overall average across all of their courses in a given term will be placed on program probation.

  • These students lose their registration priority for BUSN courses, but are still able to enroll in courses for which they have the required prerequisites, provided there is space in the course.
  • Students on program probation will be noted with the Grenfell Business program and with the Office of the Registrar (Grenfell Campus)
  • If a student on program probation fails to meet continuance requirements in their second, subsequent term of full-time enrolment, they will be withdrawn from the BBA program for a period of one semester.

Required Program Withdrawal, 2nd offence:

  • These students will lose their registration priority for BUSN courses, but are still able to enroll in courses for which they have the required prerequisites, provided there is space in the course
  • This means that you will not be eligible to register for BUSN courses until after all BUSN majors have had the opportunity to register, and that you may need to contact gcbusiness@mun.ca to be added to a course.
  • Students who have been required to withdraw from the program will be noted with the Grenfell Business program and with the Office of the Registrar (Grenfell Campus)
  • Students who have been required to withdraw for the first time may re-apply to the program after the lapse of one semester.
  • Students will need to complete a new Declaration of Program form to seek re-entry to the program

Permanent Program Withdrawal, 3rd offence:

  • If a student is re-admitted to the BBA program after a required withdrawal and if they again fail to meet the 60% minimum overall average across all of their courses in a given term of full-time enrollment, they will be permanently withdrawn from the BBA program.
  • Students who have been permanently withdrawn from the program will be noted with the Grenfell Business program and with the Office of the Registrar (Grenfell Campus), and this status will be noted on their official University transcript.
  • Students who have been permanently withdrawn from the BBA program and will no longer be eligible to complete BUSN courses.
