Julie Avery, CPA, CA is Vice President, Controller at Fortis Inc., based in St. John’s, NL. As a member of the executive team, Julie is responsible for the financial reporting and financial planning aspects of the organization. This encompasses accountability for public company financial reporting requirements and engagement with the Board of Directors and Audit Committee.

Julie joined the Fortis group of companies in 2011 and led the finance function at Newfoundland Power prior to assuming leadership roles in executive compensation and finance with the corporate head office. Prior to joining Fortis, Julie spent two years as the Controller for K&D Pratt Limited and nine years with Ernst & Young LLP where she provided audit services to clients and learned the ropes of the accounting profession.

Julie holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Hons.) from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.  She is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador. Her community involvement includes acting as Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors for Commissionaires Newfoundland and Labrador.
