Tom Bursey, ICD.D, FCPA, is the Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer at the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA).

Prior to joining the CCA, Tom was a private sector executive leader, with more than 20 years of experience in such industries as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Defence & Aerospace, and Utilities. He has been recognized for his many accomplishments through honours and awards.

Tom serves on a variety of boards of directors, including as Community Director, Canadian Dermatology Association; Independent Director and Audit Subcommittee Chair, CANVET Publications; Finance and Audit Committee Chair, Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (a Provincial Crown Corporation); and Governance Committee Chair, CENGN (Centre of Excellence Next Gen Networks).

In 2018, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, appointed Tom to the board of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), a Federal Crown Corporation, where he serves as the Audit Committee Chair.

Tom holds the prestigious distinction of Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCPA). He is a certified member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and a holder of the ICD.D designation. He is also a member and past Board Director of Financial Executives International Canada (FEI Canada).

Tom is an Honorary Life Member and past Board Director of the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) and co-led—in partnership with the Directors College—the creation and launch of the Human Resources Compensation Committee Certified Program (HRCCC). He is also the only two-time recipient of the Vision Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Ontario Human Resources Profession.

Tom received his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Master of Business Administration degrees from Memorial University, which presented him with the J.D. Eaton Alumni Award in recognition of his Outstanding Contribution to Memorial University.
