Grenfell Campus: Campus food bank closed as of Dec. 4 2024. Food bank will reopen on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 pm. Students who may require food support over the holiday break are asked to contact gcstudentservices@mun.ca if support is required.

Any individual 26 years of age and over can avail of the supports offered. The Gathering Place offers in house dining and take away for those who would prefer to eat out. If an individual is under the age of 26 they can still access food from the gathering place, but will be provided with a "to-go" meal. 

Breakfast – 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Lunch – 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Dinner/Supper – 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (available for those staying at The Gathering Place)

The Gathering Place will be serving Christmas Dinner on:  Friday, December 20th at 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Students Staying in Residence

Students living in residence over the holidays have been contacted by the on-campus housing office with instructions on how to navigate staying on campus over the break. Our Residence Life Advisors will be on call throughout the break and can be contacted, should an issue arise. For emergency purposes, please call Campus Enforcement and Patrol (CEP) directly at 709-864-4100.

Library Hours

Memorial University Libraries will be operating on a reduced schedule during the holidays. Please visit our website for our holiday schedule.

Student Unions

  • Memorial University of Newfoundland Students’ Union (MUNSU) will be closing Friday December 13, 2024 – Monday January 6, 2025.
  • Marine Institute Students’ Union (MISU) will be closing Friday December 13, 2024 – Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
  • Grenfell Campus Students’ Union (GCSU) will be closing Thursday December 19, 2024 – Tuesday January 7, 2025.
  • Graduate Students' Union (GSU) will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 and Wednesday, January 1, 2025. All office hours are based on appointment and students can email gsu@gsumun.ca if they would like to schedule a meeting.

* Emails will be checked periodically during the holiday break but response times will be delayed.

Student Wellness and Counselling Centre Holiday Closure

The Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) will be closed from Tuesday, December 24, 2024 until Friday, January 3, 2025. The centre will reopen on Friday, January 3, 2025. Students are reminded to ensure their prescriptions are refilled before the SWCC closes for the break. Prescriptions can be refilled at regular in-person clinics, virtual appointments or Quick Fix Walk-in clinic appointments. More information is available on the website.

Should an emergency arise after hours, you should call 911For off-campus emergencies, you can also dial 911, or if you are able, proceed directly to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Should you need to see a physician, the walk-in clinic MAY be available at The Blackmarsh Road Family Care Centre, located in the Dominion Supermarket on Blackmarsh Road. Call (709) 576-6555.

Students with a mental health emergency should avail of the following community-based services immediately:

  • 24-hour mental health crisis line: If you are experiencing a mental health and/or addictions crisis, need support, or health information, please contact 811 to speak with a registered nurse trained in crisis intervention.
