Abstract
The Medicine Detection System (MDS) is designed to detect medicines using barcodes printed on their packaging. Once a medicine is accurately detected, MDS retrieves the desired information about that medicine. The web component of MDS comprises of user interfaces that can be used to add, update or delete medicine's information stored inside cloud environment. The mobile component of MDS performs medicine detection by scanning barcode printed on medicine's packaging. This component also shows medicine's information after retrieving it from the cloud environment.
This system would prove to be extremely useful to all the people who need to have access to instant and accurate information and are involved in prescription and dispensing of medicines to the patients including the doctors, nurses and other paramedics. The added advantage of the mobile application is that it is user-friendly that comes handy with a swipe and doesn’t need any text input or button click. The proposed mobile application will use a barcode scanner that will auto-detect barcodes and will also make use of flash lights in the dark places to detect medicines even in complete darkness. Mobile component of MDS will also be capable of generating usage reports to keep track of the medicines that are most frequently used. Usage reports will help ensure that these medicines are always in stock.
