Abstract

Online social networking is becoming an integral part of people’s daily life with the penetration ofmobile computing and communication devices. In this research, we propose a novel socialnetworking mobile application for university students to augment their campus life using the shortrange radios on mobile devices to form an infrastructureless wireless network. Such a mobileapplication is a research prototype to study Delay-Tolerant Networking, a new computer networkingparadigm featuring “store-carry-forward”. Using this prototype application, we collect informationabout how social networking messages propagate through the network. By analyzing such data, wecan devise more effective and efficient data transfer mechanisms in such networks.
