Memorial University offers B.Sc. degree programs at both the St. John’s campus and the Grenfell campus. The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree, whether general or honours, requires the completion of 120 credit hours (40 courses) and typically takes four years to complete.

Majors

Major programs for the B.Sc. are available in all departments within the Faculty of Science, as well as in the Departments of Economics and Geography. Typically, students choose their major at the end of the first year. Selecting a major is a crucial step in your academic journey at Memorial University.

Minors

A minor is a secondary field of study requiring the completion of at least eight courses in that subject area. Students pursuing a B.Sc. program can choose an optional minor from any of the Faculty of Science major programs. Additionally, optional minors are available from the faculties of Business Administration, Engineering and Applied Science (for chemistry majors), Humanities and Social Sciences, international business, music and culture, music history, or sustainable fisheries and fisheries ecology. In the Faculty of Science, opting for a minor is entirely up to the student.

Honours Degree

The Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons.) is offered in each major subject area. An honours degree involves advanced-level study and demands high-quality work throughout the program. Honours students engage in research and gain hands-on experience, which serves as excellent preparation for graduate studies or careers in their discipline. Students may choose to study a joint major or a joint honours program. More than 30 joint programs are described in the Faculty of Science section of the University Calendar, with many other combinations available for individual students.
