Graduate students will compete over the course of an hour. Each three minute presentation will be followed by a brief break for judges to evaluate. A winner and runner-up will be chosen and announced after the final presentation. 

Why Participate in 3MT?

Enhance Your Communication Skills The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is designed to help graduate students develop and refine their oral communication and presentation skills. This unique event challenges participants to present their research in just three minutes, using language accessible to a non-specialist audience.

Skills Training for Research Students 3MT is a valuable exercise for graduate students, offering training in academic presentation and research communication. Participants learn to effectively convey complex research concepts in a clear and engaging manner, a crucial skill for both academic and professional settings.

Fostering Research Community and Culture Participating in 3MT allows research students to connect with peers, share their research, and gain feedback in a supportive environment. It’s an excellent opportunity for students to build a strong research community within the Faculty of Science and to enhance their presentation skills.

Building External Relations and Professional Development Faculty of Science 3MT participants can advance to Memorial University's 3MT, hosted by the School of Graduate Studies. The winner of this competition may represent the university at national levels, offering exceptional networking and professional development opportunities. Engaging in 3MT also helps raise the profile of your research across the university and within the local community.
