Speaking of Engineering: Dr. Suzanne Hurley, Florian Villaumé & Ama Asubonteng

Flawless process safety management involves the perfect alignment of quality design and engineering and perfected operations and maintenance practices. Collaboratively, these elements ensure the safety and integrity of process systems. On the other hand, the perfect alignment of gaps or flaws in process safety layers of protection can cause catastrophic results, also known as the Swiss cheese line-up for failure.

Having more than 35 years of refining experience, Dan Harris will share his vast knowledge of process safety management and its connection to the Swiss cheese analogy. Moreover, he will discuss the concept of building safety into a project to reduce the likelihood of incidents and their consequences—a concept known as inherently safer design.

Speaking of Engineering is hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador.
