Department of Health and Community Services

The Department of Health and Community Services is responsible for the strategic direction and priorities for health and community services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The department works to provide leadership, coordination, monitoring, and support to the provincial health authority and other entities that deliver health care programs and services, ensuring the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the health care system. The Department is responsible for administering and providing funding for insured medical and hospital services, dental and pharmaceutical services, and the purchase of seats and bursary programs for students in select health professional or technical fields, to build capacity and create a stable health workforce.

Association for New Canadians

CareerTech

CareerTech is a tech-related workshop series that is housed in the Embark Centre, a new student success hub within the Faculty of Business Administration. Delving into the realms of customer success, product management, technical sales/marketing, data science, and coding/software development, CareerTech presents informative, fun workshops for individuals interested in a career in the tech sector – all are welcome to register.   • Financial assistance is available in the form of flexible repayable loans to existing and aspiring entrepreneurs.
  • Business counselling, support & advice is available to any small businesses. We help businesses to succeed and therefore we give high priority to the advisory role of our mandate.
  • Entrepreneurship development and training to individuals and small business owners/managers is available in group or individual settings.

Master of Business Administration (MBA):

The Corporate Residency Pathway of our MBA Program offers a 22-month innovative, industry-informed and rigorous curriculum combined with an 8-month paid work experience (corporate residency) where students make between $20K-$50k, and 92% have secured employment in their field of choice within 6 months of graduation. The goal of our program is to help high achieving, self-motivated individuals with leadership potential launch their careers and accelerate their professional development. 

Master of Information (MI):

The MI degree is a 20-month course of study for full-time students. A total of 16 half-credit courses (48 credit hours) and the non-credit Practicum are needed to complete the degree. Our four-year undergraduate medical program provides a comprehensive and integrated medical education. Teaching methods are diverse, but there is an emphasis on small group teaching. The size of the faculty and the student body facilitate a personalized learning environment.

Our curriculum places particular emphasis on community and rural medicine learning environments, and patient contact starts early in a medical student’s training. Created in 1989 by a group of parents, the Fédération des parents francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador (FPFTNL) is a provincial organization that represents the interests of francophone parents and children in matters relating to school education but also to the development of early childhood services.

HMCS Cabot was commissioned in 1949 to represent the navy in Canada’s new province. It was initially housed at Buckmaster’s Field as part of a tri-service headquarters. It experienced rapid growth, however, and moved first to Pleasantville, and finally to Pier 27 in St. John’s harbour.

RNC Crest

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is Newfoundland and Labrador’s provincial police service.

The RNC is a modern, progressive, police agency that responds to the needs of the community by seeking advice and input from those it serves.

The RNC is a fully integrated police service made up of approximately 420 police officers and 125 civilian employees who are dedicated to ‘Building Safe and Healthy Communities Together’.

Saba University offers admission in an accredited, 4-year MD degree program. The four year program is split between a Basic Science Program that is taught on our campus located on the island of Saba in the Dutch Caribbean, and our Clinical Program that is taught in Medical Centers located in the United States and Canada. Saba is accredited by the NVAO, the institution that accredits medical schools in the Netherlands of which Saba is a municipality. Additionally, Saba University is approved by New York and Florida and recognized by California.

These accreditations, approvals and recognitions enable our graduates to be licensed to practice throughout the United States and Canada. Saba University’s students also have access to US Title IV loans to pay for their education.
