Committee on Ethical Research Involving Indigenous Groups

Committee on Ethical Research Involving Indigenous Groups (CERIIG): When there is no other Indigenous group to review research to provide Evidence of Community Engagement (Concept Development Phase), this group of Indigenous experts in research relations ensures projects are in line with best practices and principles in Indigenous research, including TCPS2 Chapter 9. Its approval serves as Evidence of Community Engagement (CDP). This group does not and cannot represent Indigenous groups outside of the Memorial community in these duties.

CERIIG Terms of Reference

The process of submitting a CERIIG application to the Memorial Researcher Portal is similar to that of submitting an Interdisciplinary Committee on Ethics in Human Research (ICEHR) or Health Research Ethics Board (HREB) application. The process to submit a CERIIG application is as follows:

  1. Log in to the MUN Researcher Portal;
  2. Click on “Apply New” for access to create a new application;
  3. Scroll to #3: Indigenous Engagement Research Involving Indigenous Groups (CERIIG) Application
  4. Click on the second application in the box titled “Committee on the Ethics of Research Involving Indigenous Groups (CERIIG) Application”;
  5. Complete all the various tabs in the application form;
  6. Please ensure you upload all relevant documentation and information under the “Attachments” tab as the CERIIG committee will not have access to your other Research files;
  7. Once all tabs are completed, click submit.

Once you submit the CERIIG application it will then be directed to the Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) Workflow Coordinator who will then forward the Application to the CERIIG Committee for review.

Should you require assistance with the MUN Researcher Portal you can contact Memorial Researcher Portal Support at the following: rpsupport@mun.ca and/or 864-3771.
