Disability Employment Awareness Month
Across Canada, October is recognized as Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM). In recognition of this month, Memorial University's Department of Human Resources and the Portfolio of the Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-AR) have organized several events to celebrate and discuss employment inclusion.
Human Resources case management system
The case management system used by the Department of Human Resources is undergoing changes over the coming months. During this time, case updates including when a case is resolved will continue to be provided via email; however, users will not be able to interact with cases in the employee portal.
Team Memorial Tely 10 Registration
Registration for this year's Team Memorial Tely 10 has closed. The deadline to register as part of Team Memorial and get a Team Memorial t-shirt was May 9 at noon. Please note, participants will still need to register with NLAA and pay the NLAA registration fee.
Remote Work Arrangements for Non-Academic Employees
The Guidelines for Remote Work Arrangements for Non-Academic Employees have been extended from March 29, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2024.
Excess Leave Carry-Over Extension
The end date for the reduction of leave to a one-year carry-over limit has been extended from March 31, 2025 to Oct. 31, 2025.
Group Insurance Renewal and Rate Changes
Members of Memorial's group insurance plans are advised that the plans have been renewed effective April 1, 2024. Detailed information on the renewal and rate changes can be found here. A separate renewal notice for postdoctoral fellows is available here.
Annual Pension Statements
The Department of Human Resources would like to advise members of the Memorial University Pension Plan that the pension statements for 2023 have been posted in the my.mun.ca portal.
Feedback Requested on Remote Work Arrangements Guidelines
To assess the efficacy of Remote Work Arrangements at Memorial, the Department of Human Resources is inviting employee feedback regarding the guidelines that were established in Aug. 2022. To provide feedback, employees are encouraged to complete an anonymous survey that is accessible here.

2023 Tax Slips
Tax slips for Memorial employees, and pensioners who signed up to receive their tax information electronically, are now available online. Instructions on how to access your information in my.mun.ca, is available by clicking on Accessing T4s.
Pensioners who have not signed up to receive their tax information electronically will receive their T4As by mail to the home address they have on file with Human Resources (these tax slips will be posted by Feb. 29).
belairdirect payroll deductions (formerly Johnson Insurance)
Johnson Insurance has informed Memorial University’s payroll team that payroll deduction will no longer be available as a payment option for policyholders as of their 2024 home and/or auto insurance policy renewal date.
EAP website and app updated
Memorial’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider, TELUS Health, has a new website and app: one.telushealth.com. Users will need to enter the university’s username and password (Username: Memorial and Password: wellness).
EmployU Expo!
Memorial is holding its first EmployU Expo!
The expo will take place on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Emera Innovation Exchange, Signal Hill Campus.
Navigating Together Sessions
The Department of Human Resources is holding a week of informative online and in-person sessions from Monday, June 12 to Friday, June 16. Sign up for as many sessions as you like. Virtual Retirement Planning Seminar
The Department of Human Resources is offering a two-day online retirement planning seminar for Memorial employees. Employees at any stage in their career who are interested in learning more about retirement planning are invited to attend. Expression of Interest
On behalf of Memorial’s Board of Regents, the Department of Human Resources is seeking expressions of interest to fill two vacancies on the University Benefits Committee.
General Economic Increases and OPEB changes
At a meeting held on Dec. 2, 2021, Memorial’s Board of Regents approved general economic increases for non-unionized employees who are paid on the non-bargaining, management and professional, and leadership pay scales. These increases are in alignment with the public sector template and unionized groups at Memorial.
Community of Practice event - Indigenous Inclusion 2.0
During the fall, the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion and Indigenous Works will be hosting a Community of Practice event titled Indigenous Inclusion 2.0. This event will take participants through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations related to the workplace, share locally relevant issues around Indigenous inclusion and provide examples of ways employers can work toward meaningful reconciliation. This event, conducted via Zoom, will be offered on a number of dates between Oct. 5 and Nov. 4.
Vaccination declaration deadline Sept. 7
As a part of our shared responsibility to keep each other and our extended families safe during the upcoming school year, COVID-19 vaccines are required for all students, faculty and staff. As a reminder, first doses of the vaccine are required by Sept. 7 and second doses are required by Oct. 15, 2021. Memorial has launched the secure vaccine declaration form. Please take a few moments to complete this form at your earliest convenience and no later than the end-of-day Sept. 7. You can access this form directly in the My MUN portal.
Memorial observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Sept. 30
In June, the federal government passed legislation to mark Thursday, Sept. 30, as a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. To observe this day of reflection, Memorial University will be closed; classes will be cancelled and university employees who are normally entitled to provincial and federal holidays will receive this day off.

LTD Deductions Resuming
The Department of Human Resources wishes to advise that the LTD premium holiday that began on April 22, 2021, will be coming to an end on Aug. 12, 2021. The last pay period for which no LTD deductions will be taken will be July 29, 2021.
Notice of Change to Interest Crediting Rate on Member Contributions to the Memorial University Pension Plan
In accordance with a recommendation of the University Pensions Committee and approval by the Board of Regents, the interest rate credited to contributions under the Memorial University Pension Plan has changed from a net fund rate of return to a market rate based upon five-year personal fixed term chartered bank deposit rates. Memorial was recently notified of ministerial approval to implement the interest rate change which is effective July 1, 2020, as per Directive 2020-2 which can be found here. The interest rate used for 2020 will be a blended rate of 8.6 per cent and for 2021 onwards the rate will be market-based. For 2021, the interest rate is 1.1 per cent.

Severance and other post-employment benefits
At a meeting held Dec. 5, 2019, the Board of Regents approved changes to severance and other post-employment benefits (OPEB) for non-bargaining, management and professional, and senior administrative management employees at Memorial. These changes ensure consistency in the application of severance and OPEB practices for Memorial’s staff employee groups.
