Employee Guide Updated

Memorial University’s Guide for Non-Bargaining, Management and Professional, and Senior Administrative Management employees has been updated to align the guide with current university practices, policies and procedures. Included in the update is a name change to Guide for Non-Bargaining, Management and Professional, and Leadership Group Employees.
Updates to the guide include:
- The addition of Leadership as an employee group (this group includes staff on the former Senior Administrative Management pay scale).
- The removal of outdated definitions as well as definitions captured within other policies.
- Revision to the Job Posting section to remove language now maintained in the Recruitment and Selection of Non-Academic Employees policy.
- Clarification regarding special circumstances related to probationary periods for non-bargaining, management, professional and executive employees that were not previously specified.
- Updates to direct deposit return addresses.
- Addition of a reference to Workplace Violence Prevention Training under the Employee Documentation section.
- Revisions to the New Employee Orientation, Newsline, Personnel Files and Memorial ID Card sections to generalize language to better reflect current practices.
- Revisions to the following sections to reflect the introduction of the Leave Administration policy: Hours of Work; University Holidays; Annual Leave; Deferred Salary Leave Plan; Short and Long Term Disability; Workplace Injury; Maternity, Adoption and Parental Leave; Family Responsibility Leave; Bereavement Leave; Jury Duty or Court Leave; Political Leave; Special Leave with Pay; Leave Without Pay; University Closure; Employee Educational Assistance; and Absence from the university.
- Updated language to the Resignations and Terminations section.
- Removal of language relating to severance pay.
- Addition of Appropriate Use of Computing Resources section.
- The addition of a reference to the HAY methodology under the Salary Administration and Job Evaluation section. A revision to the job evaluation information has also occurred to direct readers to the job evaluation section of the Human Resources website.
- A link to the Labrador Benefits policy has been added with updated rates, effective Feb.10, 2020.
- Revisions to the Benefits and Pensions section including updates to benefit coverage information to reflect current offerings and terminology, and the removal of information on the discontinuation of optional Pension Plan participation.
- Replacement of employee contacts with general department or unit contact information.
- Removal of dated information in the Employee Educational Assistance section, instead readers are directed to review the Employee Training and Development policy.
- Addition of a reference to the Employee Agreement form, found at the end of the Employee Health and Safety Orientation handbook, requesting for a copy of the completed form to be submitted to Human Resources with onboarding documentation.
- Removal of references to laundry services provided free of charge for protective clothing.
- Removal of a reference to emergency phones that did not apply to all campuses.
- An addition to the Health and Safety section to include information on the MUN Safe app.
This is the first update to the guide since August 2016. Additional updates will be made periodically to ensure the guide continues to align with current university policies and procedures.
