Presentation: San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)

This virtual presentation designed for researchers and supporting staff will highlight the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), which is a global initiative established to encourage improvement in the ways in which researchers, and the outputs of scholarly research, are evaluated. DORA covers all scholarly disciplines and all key stakeholders including funders, publishers, professional societies, institutions and researchers. The full DORA declaration can be read here: https://sfdora.org/read/

Over 25,000 institutions and individuals globally have signed DORA, including major Canadian funders such as NSERC, CIHR, SSHRC, CFI and Genome Canada. Just last week, the Presidents of the granting councils announced that they will be gradually transitioning to a new narrative-style tri-agency CV for all competitions, confirming their adherence to DORA principles.

This session, presented by Kelly Cobey, co-chair of DORA, will provide an overview of the organization, why it is important, who has signed on as a partner, what this means for Canadian researchers, the complexity of change and the reforming of research assessments in institutions.
