Engineering English Test (EET)
The EET is completed online. It consists of two parts: a written portion and an oral interview. In order to do the interview, the candidate must first successfully complete the written portion. Both sections are graded using rubrics, and an overall score of 60% is required to pass each portion. The format of each section is outlined below.
Part One: Written Response
Medium: Brightspace/D2L + ProctorU
Length: 50 minutes + three-minute grace period
Number of Questions: Two
Total Word Length: 400-600 words
Details: There are two different types of questions, both randomly selected from separate question banks.
The first question requires responding to a prompt [question]. These questions are typically about you and your interest or involvement in engineering. The expected length of your response is 150-250 words. It should be answered in a single, long paragraph or in a few short paragraphs.
The second question requires reading a passage of a hypothetical scenario. You will then be required to describe the situation and/or say what you would do. The expected length of this section is 250-350 words. It can be answered in multiple paragraphs or perhaps a brief essay. No knowledge of engineering is required to answer this question.
Part Two: Oral Interview
Medium: Webex
Length: ~15 minutes
Number of Questions: Five
Details: The candidates will be asked five randomly selected questions from two separate question banks. The first four will be questions about you personally. The final question will be more about the world in general. Each question should take one or two minutes to answer. The interviewer may choose to ask follow-up questions, but the assessment of your answers will be based primarily on the prepared questions and not on follow-ups. These follow-ups are not counted in the five questions that you will be asked.
