The Best New Team Award!
Earlier this month, the MUN Concrete Canoe competed at the Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition (CNCCC) in Quebec City, representing the Memorial University of Newfoundland for the first time since 1999! Among three teams participating in the competition for the first time, the MUN Concrete Canoe team was awarded Best New Team and achieved second place in their co-ed race heat! Comprising students from Civil, Ocean and Naval, and Mechanical Engineering, the MUN Concrete Canoe team represented the innovative spirit and talent of our Atlantic province!
“Comp was good! Our canoe performed really well and got a lot of good feedback from the judges and the other teams. Concordia, York, and Queens University were also competing for the first time this year, and we took the best new team! Our canoe weighed in at 176 kg, which was 60 kg lighter than expected and lighter than some other team's canoes. The team is really happy and there’s excitement about making it to comp next year!”, shared Ganna Ahmed.
The CNCCC is hosted annually by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers, where 19 universities from across Canada compete in designing, constructing, and racing a four-person concrete canoe!
