Personal Profile

Subsequent to obtaining a B.E.Sc. in electrical engineering from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, I worked for several years as a software designer at Nortel. After six years in industry, I returned to university and completed a PhD in electrical and computer engineering at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

I am currently a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland. My teaching activities include courses in digital systems, computer networks, computer and communications security, as well as supervision of senior undergraduate design projects and graduate research projects.

Research Highlights

The principle focus of my research is the design, implementation and analysis of cryptographic algorithms, or ciphers, as well as the application of cryptography to communication networks. In addition to cryptographic theory, much of my recent work has involved the hardware implementation and the side channel analysis of ciphers. My research is undertaken as part of the computer engineering research laboratories at Memorial and supported, in part, by NSERC and CMC Microsystems.
