Personal Profile

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nahhal is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Memorial University. He earned his Ph.D. with distinction from Memorial University in 2020, building on his prior academic accomplishments, which include an M.Sc. from the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) in 2014 and a B.Sc. from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, in 2007.

Dr. Al-Nahhal’s professional experience includes nearly a year (2014-2015) as a Research and Development Engineer at Nokia, Belgium, where he contributed to cutting-edge research in communication networks and signal processing. His expertise spans a wide array of topics in communications, networking, and signal processing, with particular focus on emerging technologies.

His research interests encompass machine learning and neural networks, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, resource allocation in Wi-Fi networks, cellular signal identification for current and next-generation wireless networks, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), and the application of machine learning to communications and networks. He is also well-versed in full-duplex communications, spatial modulations (SM), orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), and advanced signal detection and channel estimation techniques.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Al-Nahhal serves as an Area Editor for IEEE Wireless Communications and is an IEEE Publication Misconduct Administrator. He has demonstrated significant contributions to his field, holding three industrial patents and authoring more than 40 high-impact publications, including books, book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers.
