Wellness Programs

Memorial offers employees the opportunity to avail themselves of various programs focused on wellness.

Blood Work Clinic - The Department of Human Resources and the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre are partnering to offer blood work clinics for faculty, staff, retirees and students. For faculty, staff and retirees this is a cost-shared service whereby the individual pays $10 per visit and HR pays $10. For students, this service is free.

Employee Wellness Resources - Employee Wellness has compiled a list of wellness resources for employees including mindfulness activities, community resources and EAP contact information.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)– EAP is a comprehensive program that provides confidential assistance and support for employees, retirees and their family members who are experiencing problems of a personal or family nature.

Flu Shot Clinic - Annually the Department of Human Resources and the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre partner to offer flu shot clinics to employees and retirees.

Group Insurance Benefits Plan – Memorial provides an extensive program of group insurance benefits for employees, retirees and their dependents including hospital and extended health benefits, dental, life and AD&D insurance as well as long term disability insurance.

Access to the Blue Cross health risk assessment tool, My Good Health®, is available. This tool provides access to targeted assessments as well as an action planning tool to support lifestyle changes, health related articles and information on a range of community supports. Members can also sign up to receive a regular newsletter with timely and relevant health and wellness tips and information.

Preferred Rate Program- This program is designed to encourage employees and retirees to make better use of campus recreation facilities. Under this program, Memorial will pay a maximum of $10 per pay period for a membership at The Works for employees and up to a maximum of $21.67 per month for retirees in St. John's. The Works is comprised of the Aquarena and the Field House, both facilities offer a variety of fitness experiences. In Corner Brook, Memorial has partnered with four local fitness centres to offer a similar service to employees and retirees at Grenfell Campus. Employees and retirees of the Labrador Institute can avail of the program by contacting Kathleen Wall.

Smoking Cessation - MUN Cares is a smoking cessation program offered to employees who are ready to quit or are thinking about quitting smoking.

Tely 10 Team Memorial - Annually, the Department of Human Resources organizes Team Memorial for the Tely 10 road race.  All interested faculty, staff, retirees and their dependents are welcome to join the team.

Webinars and Activities - Throughout the year, webinars and activities are planned to promote wellness for all staff, faculty and retirees at Memorial. Please check out the HR  Events calendar to see upcoming offerings.

Wellness Fair - Employee Wellness and the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre host an annual Wellness Fair, typically held during the Winter Semester.
