Where to begin? Well, first of all, I have always loved French. It has always been my favourite subject, my favourite any and everything! I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree with a French major at Memorial University and an integral part of this French major was the Frecker Program, one semester in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. I enjoyed this program so much that I applied for and was accepted to the Lycée Program. My participation in the Lycée Program took me back to Saint Pierre in a class with 14-16 year olds (I was 21). I realized that I was in my element: French and teenagers! It was then that I decided that I wanted to be a teacher and of course, I wanted to do that en français! I haven’t had a moment of regret since then and I have spent all of my 12 years in Junior High, mostly grade 7.

I enjoyed my Education Program at the Faculty of Education of memorial University of Newfoundland, especially the observation days and of course, my internship, where I had a fabulous cooperating teacher. As good as the program was, not much could really prepare you for the adolescent mind and lifestyle!!! The first year, I went 6 hours from home, without my husband, for a half time position! It was a tough year, but I wouldn’t trade any of it. I met so many wonderful people and I still have contact with several of my former students and colleagues….bonds that will never be broken.

My passion for French has taken me to France with my saint-pierrais husband….like the guy who advertises the Swiss watches…I was so impressed with the French…I married one! I currently teach Grade 7, Late French Immersion, at Crescent Collegiate, and I absolutely love my job, my students and French!! It is a wonderful profession and I would encourage anyone to become a teacher, especially a French Immersion Teacher!
