Primary / elementary
The Faculty of Education offers 1st Degree and 2nd Degree options in its Primary/Elementary program, along with a French as a Second Language option in its 2nd Degree Program:
- The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a 1st Degree Program is a 150 credit hour program designed to prepare teachers of kindergarten through grade six. This full-time program, which extends over six semesters (three years), includes school visit days and a one-semester internship placement.
- The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a 2nd Degree Program is a 72-75 credit hour program designed to prepare teachers of kindergarten through grade six. It is intended for candidates who have completed an appropriate bachelor's degree. This full-time program, which extends over two years and includes a summer break was recently revised. It includes early field experiences and a one-semester internship placement.
- The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a 2nd Degree with French as a Second Language (FSL) Program is designed to prepare teachers of kindergarten through grade six. Students accepted into this option will have a major in French and will have studied/worked in a French milieu for a period of 8 weeks. Students must also pass the DELF B2 with a 70% average and no less than 60% in any one component before being accepted into the program. Note: Please note the following changes to science admission requirements for Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) Degree Programs:
- In June 2018, science requirements changed to:
- “The former Science 1150 and 1151; or 9 credit hours from 3 separate Science areas, 6 credit hours of which must have a laboratory component. Chemistry 1900 or Ocean Science 1000 may be used to satisfy 3 credit hours of the laboratory requirement. The science areas are: Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Ocean Sciences, Physics; or a Focus Area in Science”.
- “The former Science 1150 and 1151; or 9 credit hours from 3 separate Science areas, 6 credit hours of which must have a laboratory component. - Ocean Sciences is now one of the Sciences areas and Ocean Science 1000 may be used to satisfy 3 credit hours of the laboratory requirement.
